for stryketrio (2024)
For String Trio was commissioned by Festspillene i Bergen and presented as part of Premiere — the festival's program for young composers.
The work explored a fragile and transient mode of ensemble interaction, where unexpected points of convergence and entanglement emerged between the players. The compositional process sought to dissolve the boundaries between individual and collective musical identities, gradually merging the trio into a single, evolving sonic body. Musical lines grew across instruments rather than within them, shaped through detailed notation and subtle variations in gesture and intonation.
Particular attention was given to microtonal relationships — especially those derived from the 11th and 13th partials — producing intervals with a strong acoustic presence and a gently destabilizing quality. Through extended bowing techniques and harmonic textures, the work unfolded as a delicate sound environment: at once intimate and resistant, inviting a heightened, attentive mode of listening in which the material felt both vulnerable and compelling.
